Each show has had phenomenal success both in London and around the world, proving popular with audiences year after year. Most recently Mackintosh has combined forces with Lord Lloyd Webber to find the London cast for new West End production Oliver!. This eagerly anticipated London show is bound to prove popular with audiences and is one of the few times Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber - the biggest names in British theatre, have collaborated.

Early Life

Cameron Mackintosh was born to a Scottish father and a Maltese mother and raised as a Roman Catholic and attended a Catholic School in bath. When he was 8 years old Cameron was taken to see his first stage musical, Salad Days, and was so enchanted by what he saw that he was convinced that the only thing he really wanted to do was to produce such shows.

Cameron dropped out of his place at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama in London believing that the only way he could get in to the business was to start as a stagehand. He got a job as a stagehand on a production of Camelot before landing the job of Assistant Stage Manager for a touring production of Oliver! where he learnt about company management.

It was only 4 years later that Mackintosh produced his first show, the Cole Porter classic Anything Goes. Unfortunately the show was far from a hit but he persevered and found success with his production Side by Side by Sondheim 1976 and a long running revival of Oliver! and, in 1980 met for lunch with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Their production of Cats became a world wide smash. In June of 1998 a gala celebration to mark Cameron's 30 years in the business was held, Hey, Mr Producer! was performed in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip with proceeds going to the RNIB and the Combined Theatrical Charities.

As owner of Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, Cameron Mackintosh owns and operates 7 of London's West End Theatres. He was knighted in the 1996 New Year's Honours for his services to British theatre.
