Current Role

As well as an actor Burn Gorman is a musician and has played in clubs and on stages all over the world. In 2009 he will be using these musical talents to play the role of Bill Sikes in Cameron Mackintosh's West End revival of Oliver!. He will be starring opposite the winner of I'd Do Anything, Jodie Prenger. In his acting career Burn Gorman has just starred as Owen Harper in the second Doctor Who spin off series Torchwood and also in Bleak House. Burn and his wife Sarah have had one child named Max.

Early Life

Burn Gorman was born in Hollywood. He lived in California due to his fathers work as a UCLA professor but moved to London when he was seven. He has since starred in many films and TV series including Sex, The City and Me for the BBC, an episode of Marple, based on the Miss Marple books by Agatha Christie and has even guest starred in Eastenders. Gorman has also been spotted in Fred Claus, Layer Cake, The Best Man, Colour Me Kubrick, Love is Not Enough, The Bully Boys, Runners, Bleak House, The Curse of Steptoe, Funland, A Good Thief, Dalziel and Pascoe, Casualty, Merseybeat and the Inspector Lynley Mysteries. Burn Gorman was also Radio 1 Xtra's Human Beatbox Champion and has appeared in London theatres in Ladybird, Flush, The Green Man and Gong Donkeys.

Career Highlights

Gorman's roles in BAFTA award-winning BBC productions Bleak House and Torchwood could be his most impressive performances to date. Gorman plays the role of Owen Harper - one of the main characters of Torchwood and perhaps the strangest thing about this character is that he is dead. It is as if he has been stopped in time, he doesn't heal, breathe or eat and drink. Michael Billington of The Guardian wrote "Burn Gorman proves that he is one the best young actors in Britain." After starring in so many different films, series and musicals it's no surprise he has been named Bill Sikes for Cameron Mackintosh's Oliver!. Oliver! opens to the public on the 14th January 2009, after previews in December 2008 and stars Rowan Atkinson as Fagin and Jodie Prenger as Nancy.
