John Barrowman is probably best known for his acting and presenting work on national TV. His most prominent work to date was the massively popular Doctor Who revival on the BBC and then its spin off show, Torchwood. He recently joined Andrew Lloyd Webber on the popular BBC show Any Dream Will Do in which they searched for the next Joseph for the West End Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Early Life

Born 11th March, 1967 in Glasgow he spent the first eight years of his life in Scotland before his family relocated to the states in 1975. He attended Joliet West High School where he performed in many school productions of Hello, Dolly, Oliver, Camelotand Anything Goes. He graduated in 1985 before attending university in San Diego and later returning to the UK in 1990.

Career Highlights

p>John Barrowman is no stranger to the West End; he has appeared in many shows including Anything Goes in both productions and Phantom of the Opera to name but a few. In 1998, he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for his role in The Fix. Openly gay, the actor was shortlisted to play the part of Jack in Will and Grace but producers deemed him 'too straight' to play the part.

Barrowman's first presenting work was on the BBC's children's program, Live and Kicking in 1993 alongside the legendary Andi Peters. He continued to work on children's TV foe a few years before making the step up to daytime shows, stepping in for Phillip Schofield on This Morning. In 2006, John took on a role similar to his current position as a judge on the panel of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria
