The Architecture of The Aldwych

The Aldwych Theatre was designed by WGR Sprague and built by Seymour Hicks in conjunction with Charles Frohman, an American impresario. The interior of the theatre is handsomely decorated in a Georgian style. When the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre took over the Aldwych in the 1960's a number of alterations were made, including the building of an apron stage with a new proscenium and lighting system. New circle boxes were constructed and the old ones were absorbed into the stage area.
